what is the difference between a paralegal and a runner?

Question: This girl recently disclosed information that she was employed as a paralegal at a high prestigious law firm. But when I read her profile she stated that she was a runner. and on top of that she's only 20 and a sophmore in college. please give me as much information as possible.

Answer: a runner runs documents and may do some legal stuff, but minimal - probably more secretarial. You don't need any experience or knowledge to be a runner - just a driver's license. A paralegal has some specific training and is able to conduct research through Westlaw, Lexis, etc... Paralegals do a significant amount of actual legal work. For the record, if you're a law student, you don't want to be a runner - being a runner is a job for someone with no experience or knowledge. Also, you do not want to be a paralegal as - there is a special program of study to be a paralegal. You want to clerk at a law firm.
