fiesta ware?

Question: i recently went to an antique shop and they had vaseline fiesta ware. i have never heard of it and the owner said it had uranium in it. can anyone tell me why they used uranium or anything about it or any websites on these pieces?

Answer: Vaseline is usually used to describe glass not ceramic. Compounds of uranium tend to be yellow. Some yellow pigment used in old ceramics comes from compounds of uranium. Always check 30s, 40s, 50s, yellow ceramic with a geiger counter. Some of it is still radioactive. -- Edit -- I found a website with some radiation readings on Fiesta Ware. http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/consumer%20products/fiesta.htm
